Letters to Ukrainian POWs Civilians and Crimean Tatars in Russian Captivity
October 19 @ 15:00 - 18:00

Behind russian bars hundreds of Ukrainians 🇺🇦
Ukrainians in russian prisons face isolation, pressure, and torture by security forces. Russia expands “terrorism” trials against Ukrainians. Since 2014, after the occupation of Crimea, repression against dissenters has only grown. Crimean Tatars have been a particular target.
The UN and human rights organizations have documented systematic torture, sexual violence, and inhumane conditions in russian prisons and detention centers. Testimonies of released prisoners reveal electric shocks, beatings, threats of execution, and forced confessions.
Recently, russia denounced the European Convention against Torture effectively closing the door to international human rights monitoring. Not that this convention ever truly stopped torture in russian prisons, but now even formal oversight is gone. No eyes, no witnesses, no accountability.
That is why writing letters to Ukrainian prisoners of war, civilians, and Crimean Tatars held in russian captivity is so important.
A letter is more than words on paper, it is a sign of life, a message of solidarity, a reminder to the prison authorities and security forces that the world is watching and that every prisoner has a name, a story, and a voice that cannot be silenced.
Join us for a letter-writing event on October 19, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at White Rabbit Bookstore (200 W 86th St, New York).
You can come at any time during the event.
Letters give hope to those inside and send a clear message to those in power:
the world remembers, and we are watching.
We are the voice of all those who are illegally held in prisons by the kremlin regime.
We have no right to remain silent. That’s why every such event must be as powerful as possible.
✉️ Anonymity guaranteed, letters can be sent through our friends or via trusted anonymous services.
