FILM CLUB. Commissar (1967), directed by Aleksandr Askoldov

Join us at 7:00 PM on March 7 as we continue exploring Soviet culture through cinema in our bi-weekly film club! From revolutionary beginnings to late-Soviet classics and later reflections, we’ll sit back, relax, discuss, and enjoy the films that shaped—and questioned—one of the most influential societies of the 20th century.
Our next screening will feature Commissar (1967), directed by Aleksandr Askoldov, a riveting drama of commissar torn between her identity as a mother and allegiance to the revolution, set against the backdrop of vicious pogroms in war-torn Ukraine. The screening will include a short historical introduction by Gregory McEvoy. Tea and snacks will be provided.
Discussion led by Gregory McEvoy
The participation fee is $10.
Please note: seating is limited due to the size of our venue, so we strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance.
